The Education Program Consultant will be an integral member of the Bureau of Educational Examiners, processing licenses and providing assistance to educators, school districts, Area Education Agencies, and non-public schools.

Your Responsibilities

Receive, evaluate and determine eligibility for Iowa educator licensure, based on Iowa Code and Administrative Code. Interact with the Bureaus online application system, to issue accurate licensure. Provide leadership and guidance to Iowa educators and future educators on licensure requirements. Participate in regional and state meetings and focus groups to gather an provide input on current and future issues.

Deliver presentations to Iowa’s teacher education programs and school districts on the licensure process, alternatives and professional educator ethics. Participate in regional meetings with Superintendents and other Administrators on Bureau updates.

Provide accurate and consistent guidance to Iowa educators, school districts, Area Education Agencies and non-public schools.

Evaluate and provide feedback on Curriculum Exhibits from Iowa Colleges and Universities providing Teacher Preparation, in accordance with Iowa Code and Administrative Code.

Collaborate with other team members to determine needed resources for educators in the licensing process

Participate in comprehensive efforts of the Department and Bureau, including Department, Division, and Bureau meetings, and other assigned work groups.

Desirable (or) Required Qualifications

  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Suite.
  • Experience working in computer applications. Data input and evaluation.
  • Experience providing technical assistance and professional learning to educators.
  • Experience interpreting and implementing state or federal education law.
  • Experience in elementary and/or special education teaching.

Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday; some nights and weekends, occasional in-state and out-of-state travel.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • Professional training, teaching, or counseling experience in an educational setting;
  • Professional administrative experience in an educational setting;
  • Professional finance, accounting, or auditing experience, including the preparation or analysis of financial statements;
  • Professional experience in a major technical program area housed within the Iowa Department of Education;
  • Professional data integration, data analysis, and statistical analysis experience;
  • Professional communications experience, including public relations, marketing, or journalism;
  • Professional school safety and emergency preparedness experience.
  • A combination of a total of five years of post-graduate education and full-time experience (as described in number one), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited post-graduate college or university course work equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree, possession of a valid Iowa Teaching Certificate, and three academic years of teaching and/or administrative experience in PK-12 and/or a post-secondary educational institution.
  • Possession of a School Business Official Authorization from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners and seven years of full-time professional experience in finance, accounting, or auditing, including the preparation or analysis of financial statements.
