Permit Technician (Customer Service & Processing)

Location: Ocala, FL

Pay: $20.88/hour

Job Type: Temporary – 6 Month Project

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least 1 year of experience in permitting, construction, or a related field preferred
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Basic computer and data entry proficiency

About the Role

We are seeking a customer-focused Permit Technician to support a busy county department in Ocala. This role starts with handling inbound calls and customer inquiries, with the opportunity to expand into permit processing and technical responsibilities as you gain experience. It’s a great entry point into government permitting or construction-related administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person, phone, and online support regarding permit requirements, fees, and timelines
  • Assist contractors and the public with building permits and contractor licensing
  • Review and process permit applications with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Enter and update data in permitting systems
  • Identify application deficiencies and communicate required corrections
  • Calculate fees and ensure accuracy of all county-imposed charges
  • Collect payments, issue receipts, and perform daily audits of transactions
  • Maintain compliance with permitting codes, regulations, and policies
  • Support additional departmental tasks as needed

  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to handle high call volume
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial transactions
  • Ability to learn permitting systems and processes quickly
  • Comfortable working with the public and resolving questions or issues
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
